New low-maintenance front garden with year round colour
This detached bungalow had a traditional front garden with a lawn, mixed borders, a concrete driveway and path. The brief was to completely re-design the garden to provide a lower maintenance solution with attractive views from the house. The garden was north facing, and the clients tended to spend more time in their sunnier cottage style back garden.
The design solution saw the removal of the lawn and a new path layout to frame the attractive entrance to the house. Gravel was used for both the new paths and driveway instead of concrete to aid drainage. Small natural granite slabs were used to edge the paths & to create narrow walkways throught he new borders. The planting scheme aimed at 'structured informality' included low hedges of Osmanthus and Rosemary and the borders planted with a range of shrubs and perennials that included Choisya, Hebe, Hypericum, Heuchera, Hamamelis and Oleria.
